Before I left for Cambridge I used the experience as a writing lesson in my level II internship. We were working on sequencing and including transitioning words within writing in first grade and I found it as a great opportunity to get students excited about writing. They also got a little lesson in letter writing.

1,2,3 Break!
From the first day I entered into the school I was fascinated by the breaks and the free time children have. I thought back to the schools in Florida and how teachers are so pressured to stay on schedule with the school day curriculum and how kids don’t even have recess. I know kids need a break every once in a while, and so do teachers. I was just fascinated at how much the kids know compared to the students back home, even with having an hour lunch and a fifteen-minute break in their school day. I can finally see what research has been saying about giving children breaks within the school day and how effective it can be for their learning. Imagine walking into a classroom with 30, yes 30, not 15 students staring at you! Luckily for you, you’re just imagining it, while for me it became a reality when I entered into Histon and Impington Junior School in Cambridge, England, to begin my summer internship. My first week was successful and full of wonderings and so much. I have enjoyed being able to compare the American school system to the English school system and finding the similarities and differences of each. But the second I saw 30 students staring back at me, all with differing levels of personality, I knew my management would be my biggest challenge.
